The child must know that he is a miracle, that since the beginning of the world there hasn't been, and until the end of the world, there will not be another like him. (Or her) ~ Pablo Casals
Dear sisters,
Happy May! I just love this time of year don't you? The long wait for leaves to pop and first blossoms to bloom is finally over! Now we can get down to business tending our suburban gardens and farmsteads. I'll share my "new starts " from the greenhouse before this post comes to an end but with Mother’s day just around the corner I can't help thinking back on some of my most memorable
" MOM MOMENTS ".
Grab a Kleenex box and your favorite comfy chair. This post might go longer than usual and there may be some happy tears!
“Don’t ask yourself what the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you come alive, and then go and do that. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.” ~Howard Thurman
I'll never forget these words uttered by a dear friend of mine as she walked through our suburban backyard to see our chickens and coop for the first time several years ago. She said, “YOU NEED A FARM”! “Yes, I do ", I quipped as we made our way closer to the girls. She couldn't have been more SPOT ON. Little did she know that having a FARM of my own is something I have ALWAYS wanted, but, HE has had other (wonderful) plans for me, all of which have led me straight to my DREAM FARM…
Spring has finally SPRUNG along the shorelines of Cape Cod Bay! Just looking at these daffodils makes my head spin with delight. There's just SOOOO much to do this time of year. How about you? What's putting an extra “spring in your step” right now? I know! Let's walk and talk at the beach! I've got a full report! And besides there are more daffodils to see, dahlias too and some dream-work to be done along the way!
Spring is nature's way of saying, "Let's party!" ~Robin Williams
I'm feeling especially rejuvenated with the arrival of spring this year. Maybe it was the record breaking warming trend (before the actual first day of spring) that put me in such an excited state! I'm sure that has a lot to do with it! Even more so, I think it's the promise of new beginnings that spring brings each year. Come on in and find out “what’s new” in our little corner of the world and check out some inspiring farmgirl sister “UP-DO'S “inside and out!
Welcome to my little celebration sisters! I'm so glad you could join me today! Spread out your beach blanket and raise a glass with me in honor of farmgirls everywhere! We would not be here today if it weren't for Sister # 1 bringing us all together! Three cheers to MaryJane for creating a place where farmgirls can gather up to gab and gush! Hip- Hip Hurray! Hip -Hip Hurray! Hip- Hip Hurray!
"Cottage Fever” is a powerful force! It never really goes away; it just goes dormant for the winter. ~ Deb Bosworth
In our neck of sandy Cape Cod Bay we get hit with a double- dose of spring fever this time of year! The gardening bug starts biting in early February ( even though we are usually still buried in snow ) and our tiny off-grid Cottage by the Sea begins to whisper our names ever so softly. Thoughts and images of past summers begin to swim in our heads and hearts, reminding us that “The Cottage " awaits. With each passing day those whispers grow louder beckoning us to return to the BEACH!
Yep, you read the title right...I've got “dirt" on my mind and not just any dirt. After all, spring planting is right around the corner! If you're a farmgirl who LIKES the smell of damp, dark earth, and you don't mind a little dirt under your nails, dig right into this post for the scoop on getting your hands on some " Drop Dead Dirt ". You won't believe how SIMPLE creating your own little GARDEN of EDENcan be.
February Greetings Farmgirls! Valentine's Day is just around the corner and I'm feeling a tad bit guilty that I haven't come up with just the right gift for my sweet yankee for * love day * yet. Instead, my heart is all a flutter over my newfound love interest *PINTEREST*and my passion for the color RED! I promise by the end of this post you'll be " FIRED UP " for the color RED too!
WARNING... Readers BEWARE! You might end up a " pinner " too!
I just love it when old ways come home to roost don't you? What do I mean when I say “old ways"? Well, I mean the SIMPLE things of course. Things like a hot and hearty bowl of homemade stew on a cold winter’s day, clearing away last year’s clutter and rearranging furniture for a fresh perspective! The kinds of things that don't cost more than a day's worth of groceries and a little elbow grease. You might say I’ve been indulging in one of my favorite pastimes. PLAYING HOUSE!
Debbie Bosworth,
is a certified farmgirl at heart. She’s happily married to her beach bum Yankee husband of 20 years. She went from career gal to being a creative homeschooling mom for two of her biggest blessings and hasn’t looked back since. Debbie left her lifelong home in the high desert of Northern Nevada 10 years ago and washed up on the shore of America’s hometown, Plymouth, MA, where she and her family are now firmly planted. They spend part of each summer in a tiny, offgrid beach cottage named “The Sea Horse.”
“I found a piece of my farmgirl heart when I discovered MaryJanesFarm. Suddenly, everything I loved just made more sense! I enjoy unwinding at the beach, writing, gardening, and turning yard-sale furniture into ‘Painted Ladies’ I’m passionate about living a creative life and encouraging others to ‘Make Each Day their Masterpiece.’”
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
– Mark Twain.
